Music and Lyrical Analysis

Lyrics:

You hate when my head hangs low after all x2

these things you said trust this night you fall x2

I am the one still to blame

Guess they will stay the same

Baby baby stay here I need some time to clear my mind

We but known its a problem but you call me all the time,

and I say I'm here just a little longer

Yeah

I am here just need you to be stronger x2

If I'm not there with you x4

Can't expect you to understand

Hake you back to where it began

Had I just followed all my plans

I wouldn't have ended up so lost

Now I'm so lost

Baby baby stay here I need some time to clear my mind

We but known its a problem but you call me all the time,

and I say I'm here just a little longer

Yeah

I am here just need you to be stronger x2

If I'm not there with you x4

Section 1 - Target audience

Right away denoted from the song you can here lots of futuristic sounding instrument's and sounds such as synthesizers which are commonly used in a technical industry. What this can connote is that the futuristic sounds that are used would appeal to a much more younger audience around teenagers as the ideologies and stereotypes of teenagers are that they like a lot of technical devices such as phones, game consoles and very modern updated music.

When the song plays the sounds denoted can also represent them as there's a young vocal singer in their mid 20's in the song which connotes that it can mean that the song could relate much more to them than an more older singer as they may share different interests and styles of music. The music can also represent the teenager target audience because of hoe fast and upbeat it is, which represents teenagers as being loud and alive while in contrast ore older people such as grandparents are known to listen to much more slow paced music that has a much more historic feel to it as the songs that they may listen to may have been from the early 20th century, while this is the future of what songs could be like

For the gender appeal for this song I would say that it would appeal more towards a mix of both instead of a direct gender as a lot of modern music of today has a lot of equal audiences who like the music as the songs have interests of both sides and this song has appeals to both as I would say as it denoted has calm but soothing beat which connotes that it could appeal to the female demographic. When the beat bets to the drop or chorus the song denotes a very intense and hard hitting which could connote an appeal to the male demographic as men are known stereo-typically to be aggressive and intense while women are the polar opposite.

For location I wold that this song because of the denoted futuristic, upbeat music that target teenage audiences would be aimed towards more of a urban city because cities are known to have vast amounts of young people working there and living there because of the facilities that they offer such as night clubs and what this could is that the song would get a larger audience and a much more broad market instead of a niche small audience of people living out on a farm who maybe young teenagers but may have not experience that city life of partying making them not a direct candidate that this type of song would be aimed for, as this song could be played at night clubs and party's because it has that exciting, alive vibe that teenagers that have been brought up into that life enjoy.

Finally for ethnicity the appeal for this song I would say is primarily a white demographic because denoted throughout of the song is, the style of the beat and tone of the song which connotes that it could directly appeal the white audience as other ethnic groups such a Blacks are known stereo-typically to enjoy more of a rap, beat style of music and Asians are known for more cultural styled music, even religion has a part of this in terms of what type of people would enjoy this type of music as people who are religious may not enjoy this type of music because denoted in the song is lots of science related sounds  because of the over use of technology causing them to dislike it and enjoy more of a chanting monk type of music style  that Christianity or other religions are known for

Section 2 Analysing lyrics

Denoted from the song we can straight away from the lyrics that this has a level of romantic elements to it because of the words and phrases such as 'Baby' which are repeated over again which could connote that he loves a women and is trying hi best to get her attention and this denoted his level of commitment to her. Throughout the song we also see other lyrics that could suggest other things for instance denoted on the first verse is 'I am the one still to blame, Guess they will stay the same' which could connote that he feels sorry about himself or feels like he's the one being abused for no reason as he mentions how he is always blamed but no changes by continuing to blame him suggesting that he's trying to convince others that he's innocent. Further on with the lyrics denoted at  the Second verse is 'I am here just need you to be stronger x2' Connotes how desperate he is but also wants her to be more forgiving as he maybe calling her weak and sensitive making her believe a lot of things or taking things too seriously, and when the line is repeated it connotes his emotions and level of compassion to her as she means a lot to him.

For the third verse is denoted 'Can't expect you to understand, take you back to where it began'
This connotes many things as he's at this point trying his best to convince her to not to reject him and make her acknowledge that he knows of his mistakes and because of that he mentions to think of what it was like when they perhaps first started dating and how good it was and how this could be the start of maybe mending their relationship and starting over. For last part of the third verse is denoted '
Had I just followed all my plans, I wouldn't have ended up so lost, now I'm so lost' What this could connote is that he mentions that he was right and how he should of continued to do what he originally intended and because of what he decided to do caused him to become lost such as maybe doing things he wanted to do such as spending time with her but instead he went out with his mates causing problems with their relationship and resulting issues for the long term. Finally to close of the song, denoted is a repeat of the first to link the beginning and end together which could connote how the whole story had came full circle and maybe nothing has changed or improved or maybe it has and this is just a reminder of the past

Section 3 Analysing music

Straight up from the song denoted at 0-11seconds in there is a calm piano beat in the background which is very slow this connotes that there is a lot of emotion packed into it and this could signify the start of the lonely journey the singer has had. Denoted from 0:11-0:43 is the same beat but with electronically enhanced voice saying the first lines of the first verse in a quick and calm voice and what this could connote his first emotional reaction to his journey and his calm but quick voice could connote his emotions and how he's trying to keep his emotions inside which would explain why he's calm but also he's trying to move on so by him speaking very fast could represent him trying to get over it. Denoted from 0:43-1:26 is a another type of beat that increases and until the bass drop which could connote his emotions building up and maybe his compassion still for the girl he loved, after the bass drop the music levels out and goes calm and has a very similar composition to what was at 0:43, which could signify a full circle and how everything is doomed to repeat itself over and over again. This whole method and layout is repeated over again for the whole 4minutes until the very end which starts around at 4:06 and this has a similar style to what the song first started out with but a little more complex with a different piano melody and whistling sounds in the background while it starts to fade out to nothing and what this could connote is how everything s a full loop and how emotional the guy is as the sounds of whistles sounds very emotional and suits the situation of sadness and loneliness

Section 4 Analysing Tempo

From the beginning of the song the tempo denoted is very slow paced and calm as I've stated before this starts at 0-43 this could connote how the journey of his started out as and as its gotten worse such as his emotions getting much more stronger he becomes more upset and he could become more paranoid resulting the tempo to increase slowly. Denoted from 0:43and on wards till 1:26 the tempo instantly increases without a fade less than a second and what this could connote is how this could represent an event in his journey or relationship such as a huge major argument causing an emotional split between him and his partner and it only gets worse from here. Denoted for the bass drop of the song the tempo is the strongest here as its very fast paced and has very little breaks and this could connote the end of his relationship or the peak of it such as arguments and fighting and after this the song has a same composition so it all represents a loop and how it continues and never ends. Finally at the end of the song denoted at 4:06 the tempo reverts to what it was like at the beginning as being slow paced and what this could connote is how the whole event has come full circle or how its finally ended for good.

Section 5 How I would use this in my music video

For my music video I would use this song and make visual representations of it in the video to convey the message of the music in a visual form. For example I would denote the begging in a slow visual style such as an establishing shot to reveal a clam happy place or sad place to convey that emotion from music into a video, this would connote all the emotions that the song depicts and would make sense in a visual stand point. For the parts of the intense tempo and bass drop It would denote a more intense montage of clips put together such as past experiences of the guy and girl together and have it cross cut between them being happy and them having arguments which connotes that it  would juxtapose it, and give a much more emotional and more depth to the story. Throughout the loops of the song it would denote both sides of the story during the repeats of the song and there would be colour grading for the two different people to represent and how they feel about it and this would connote the struggles between both people and their views, so the dark coloured shots would be darkness and loneliness and sadness while the vibrant shots would be partying and having fun and visually representing the happiness between them. Finally for the end It would denote the same and similar situation as the beginning make it loop or connect with the beginning which connotes that its come full circle and the sadness will never end and how everything that happened in the video was a reminder of what has happened and how its a constant repeat in his head.

My Top 5 Music Videos

One of my favourite songs is radioactive by imagine dragons because I love the style and flow of the song but I also do enjoy the music video as it has many juxtapositions within it such as toys and generally family friendly items being torn to shreds and being demonised by evil making a very clear example of contrasting examples. The whole music video is full of many random elements and is just full of fun and enjoyment as lots of crazy things such as toys being denoted in an arena fighting against each other, which has many connotations but a main reason is for a crazy enjoyable user experience.

Another favourite songs for is Ed Sheerans 'Castle on the hill'. I find this song very enjoyable and nostalgic for me to listen as the song reminds me of past events that I find very fun and enjoyable especially during the parts of the song where he mentions his childhood. What I do like in particular of music video for this song it that it depicts and creates moments that many people go through when they grow up such as friends from when they were younger having a more harsh life as they get older such as drugs and divorces which is juxtaposition from when they were younger. The use of many camera languages and editing styles help enhance this experience much more making it a much more enjoyable. The story of the music video makes it much more of an emotional experience because during his Childhood he had made many friends and many of them have dissolved and only at the end during their adulthood only a couple of them remain as a former shells as they used to be.

Another favorite of mine is 'Light it up' by Major Lazer and as much I find this song very enjoyable to listen to the music video to me has much more meaning and depth to it with the song as denoted during the song there are many various types of characters that are dancing that are made and shaped in many different ways such as strings, disks and other materials and I find this very interesting as it connotes many different types of personalities of people and how different people are represented in their different physical forms which directly relate their inner personalities. The style of how the video is made and produced makes it seem how people from any different social backgrounds such as nationalities, religion and many other ethnic backgrounds can be work together to have a much more peaceful and enjoyable world.

Another one of my favourites is believer by imagine dragons and the music perfectly fits with the style of the music video by the intense music beat drops and thuds while two characters are fighting and boxing which compliments the lyrics. What also stands out of the video is the editing and style of the video with lots of effects and vibrancy of the colour grading giving it a much more mythic-ally and intense view of the video as red connotes anger and there is lots of fighting and the video gives of a sense of competition vibe and the lyrics which keep repeating 'Believer' which could also signify to keep going at your skills and passions and you'll succeed linking to the guys fighting to keep him the sense of confidence to keep going and winning.

Finally for my last favourite music video is 'Starboy' by TheWeekend. What I particular like from this video is the gangster dark vibe feel to it. For example during the first 30seconds of the music video is what appears to be a torture scene of a guy who eventually is killed and the murder(TheWeekend) goes around terrorising the place with a Christian cross symbolising how he may defy religion and wants to rebel against it which is a juxtaposition. The lyrics and beat of the music is also related to the video as has a sense of a dark mysterious sound to it which has a lots of echo's in it which can connote that he's a sly shadowy figure that wants to remain hidden which would make sense as he wears lots of black clothing and has a black car etc, and red is the only colour that stands out which could represent his angry and distrust in society.
